Tried purchasing S&T2013 using a promo code the Microsoft reps was passing out at the Louisville RV Rally that was suppose to be valid July 2-8. After entering the code at checkout I got a message “invalid promo code”! Sent a message to the Microsoft Store regarding this issue but have not received a response. Sure hope S&T2013 works better than Microsoft’s promos!
Thanks you Charles for letting me know. I have also sent mail to make sure everything is working correctly. Remember the code is CaSeSenSiTive so enter it exactly as written.
I keep getting an error on install that stays that I am missing Windows Hotfix KB2543882 but when I try to load this it’s for a Windows 7 OS when I’m trying to run this on a Windows XP 32 bit machine. I called tech support and they couldn’t help. I called the Microsoft Store and they said to upgrade the machine to Windows 7. Help!!! This is needed by our Sheriff department asap for a big case they are working on.
BA – did you get it installed? My guess is if you let it install the prerequisites which include the hotfix among other things it should install and work as expected. Let me know.
Well, guess what, I copied and pasted your promo code above and still got an “invalid” message.
Sorry Phil. There was a issue apparently getting this rolled out exactly right but most folks have been able to take advantage of the special discount.
If you act now these 2 promos will surely work for you. Remember: if you already have the DVD for S&T 2013 then you Do NOT need to download the software again.

I have S/T 2004 and want to update. Can I do this without loosing all my maps and buttons I have put on my current copy?
Hi Lee,
Your copy is 8-9 years old and those old maps will not convert in S&T 2013 unfortunately. However…you can install S&T 2013 without removing S&T 2004 and copy the pushpin sets from one map to another.
If you’d like to send me one of your files I can get a better idea of what steps you’d need to take. And as a bonus I’ll send it back to you all covered for the new version.
email it to me at: streetsandtrips [at] Hotmail [dot] com
I assume 2013 will read old files without damage? By old I mean some written with 2010 and some with an earlier version.
JC
It will read S&T 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 files without a problem.
There are the great new Microsoft David, Zira and Hazel English TTS voices in Windows 8. Streets & Trips should include them besides Anna which is less natural sounding.
If you can figure a way to get those great new Windows 8 voices installed on earlier OSes I’d love to know about it. I agree, they are a great improvement over Sam and Anna. Can’t wait to get a new Microsoft Surface laptop with S&T 2013 and take a trip using the new voices.
I’m new to S&T and still on the trial version from the Louisville show until I get my delivery later this week.
How can I downsize some of the pushpin icons using Photoshop?
I can’t search street addresses in Canada.
If I make a mistake and delete pushpins inside or outside the marque area, it would be great to have a “revert to saved” or an “undo” that replaces all that were deleted without having to start over.
Is there a magnifying glass/marque tool to allow me to zoom to the selected area?
Can I stop the program from zooming out after making an edit while working on a route?
After editing, how do I display the route without “getting directions”?
Hey Jason,
For a new user, you sure have some great (and somewhat advanced) questions on the software. I am impressed.
Downsizing PP icons: You don’t even need Photoshop. It can be easily done in MS Paint. Open, resize and save as 23-bit BMP format.
If you want to search for Canadian addresses try adding “,Canada” the first time. That’ll switch to the Canadian address parser. Example. instead of 123 main st, Toronto try 123 main st, Toronto, ON, Canada
Revert to saved: There is no way to undo a delete in this case. However you can close the map and it will ask you if you want to save the changes. Say no, the reopen and you’ll be back to the way it was the last time you saved the map.
Zoom to selected area: Right-click’n'drag a small rectangle that encompasses the area you would like to zoom into. Then left click inside the rectangle and BOOM! you’re right there. There are other ways but that is my personal favorite method. Double-clicking on the map is also pretty easy. Shift+double-click zooms out.
Stop the Autozoom: While this is autozoom to show the entire route is the way it is design you can easily return to your previous view by clicking Alt+back arrow.
Getting Rid of the directions: Ctrl+u will toggle the directions pane off. Likewise, the steering wheel icon on the toolbar will also collapse the directions pane at the top of the map.
Have a great weekend.
Larry
Thanks for the tips, I learn quick (sometimes) and you were a great presenter in Louisville. I don’t know how to use MS Paint and will stick with Photoshop, but I can’t find the icons you created in the mega file. I just want to make them all the same size so the big ones don’t cover up some of the smaller ones.
I also experience “Out of Memory” messages and restarting the program is the only way to fix it. Any ideas what I can do to fix that? XP service pack 3 – 118 GIGS available – 4 GIGS of RAM – Duo Core
My toolbar icons are now black and white only, not looking like the previous version, is this right?
Hello Todd,
Yes the new toolbar icons are now white on black. Less colorful I know but the high contrast does make them easier to see in certain viewing conditions.
Just installed S&T 2013. 2013 exported gpx files are not recognized by Garmin MapSource. When gpx files are exported from S&T 2010, they can be imported into Garmin Mapsource. What changed. I prefered using S&T to develop routes then exported gpx files into MapSource so I can load as routes to my motorcycle Garmin. Please don’t tell me I have to abandon S&T!
Hi Dave,
I can’t think of any changes to the GPX feature that would cause any change in the export. Can you send me a GPX export from ST2013 that doesn’t work and another GPX export from 2010 that does work? I’d like to understand this better. Send to me at streetsandtrips [at] Hotmail [dot] com
When saving a route as a GPX, I can’t open it in BaseCamp or MapSource
LOVE the new buttons, it certainly makes it much easier on my Win8 tablet. This was one of my big asks, and you guys delivered. Spot on, hope your team gets Ship It awards!
I have a desktop running Windows 7 and a laptop on XP that I use S&T 2006 on. If I buy S&T 2013 will I be able to load it on both machines? Also if I purchase the download version and my computer crashes a year from now will I be able to download the software again?
Great questions Steve. Yes and Yes.
How can I display more then one route (separate GPX files) at the same time on the map?
Is there a way to change the default pushpin symbol in S&T 2013? Not a big fan of the default gray box as it doesn’t stand out very well.
Hi Byron, I hear you. While the default pushpin cannot be changed. It is easy to change it to whatever you’d like. This can be done either one at a time by right-clicking on the pushpin icon and choosing properties and choosing something else from the symbols dropdown. OR better yet you can change the pushpin icons for the entire set at once by right-clicking on the pushpin set name in the legends and overview pane.
Have you ever downloaded the POI Megafile? It contains hundreds of unique icons above and beyond the default set that comes with the software. I usually use the custom ones because they have more meaning to me that a red-dot.
I just installed 2011 version on my PC. but when i tried to open file it says use newer version to open. my system is window 7 64bit. any solution?
Hi Nirav,
Sounds like the file you were trying to open was created using a version of S&T from years back that is no longer supported. It doesn’t have anything to do with your OS version in this case. If that doesn’t sound correct and you’d like to send me the map file and a brief description of the issue I can investigate. streetsandtrips [at] Hotmail [dot ] com
the ms store page is redirecting me to autoroute eventhough im in canada(its nothing new as we cant buy halo ce for pc from them either lol)
Can you provide the URL to the ms store page that is redirecting you. Thanks.
